Dr. Cecilia Devoto

Main Areas of Expertise Molecular biology; Cell biology; Microbiology; Infectious disease Secondary Areas of Expertise Malariology; Cellular, Molecular and Medical Parasitology Biography Dr. Cecilia Devoto's doctorate focused on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive the malaria parasite, Plasmodium, to invade target mammalian cells. She assisted with the generation of transgenic malaria parasites used to elucidate specific gene function at the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Parasitology, Imperial College, London. She also assisted in the creation of a transgenic mouse with important implications for cardiac disease research at the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism, Rockefeller University, New York City. She worked for several years for a London-based open access publisher and, upon moving to Hong Kong, she continued in this role on a freelance basis.
