Chromatin & DNA Replication

Dr. Katrina Woolcock

Main Areas of Expertise Molecular biology; Biochemistry; Gene expression; Epigenetics & Chromatin; RNA interference; Genomics Secondary Areas of Expertise Non-coding RNAs; Transcription; Nuclear organization; Stress responses; DNA damage & repair Biography After completing a BA and MSci in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, Dr. Katrina Woolcock moved to Switzerland to pursue a PhD at the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel. Here, she studied the role of the RNA interference (RNAi) machinery in gene regulation in the fission yeast nucleus, receiving the top grade for her thesis. As a postdoc at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna, she continued studying nuclear RNAi mechanisms at a genome-wide level. Being one of the few native English-speakers at both FMI and IMBA, she has read and edited many draft manuscripts and grant proposals for colleagues. Making the switch to science publishing in 2015, she completed a locum position as an editor at Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in London, where she dealt with over 150 manuscripts from diverse research areas. Qualifications PhD Biochemistry, Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (Switzerland) BA & MSci Natural Sciences, University of Cambridge (UK)
