Dr. Dean Rea

Main Areas of Expertise Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Enzymology, and Pharmacology Ecology, Conservation Science, Environmental Science, and Evolutionary Biology Secondary Areas of Expertise Genetics, Bioinformatics, Proteomics, and Microbiology Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry Biography Dr Dean Rea obtained a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of East Anglia, which included an intercalated year of Synthetic Organic Chemistry in the Medicinal Chemistry Department, GlaxoSmithKline. This was followed by a PhD on the structure and function of peptidases at the School of Life Sciences, University of Warwick. He has since studied the plant circadian clock, carotenoid dioxygenases, microbial aromatic degradation, transcriptional repressors, and bacterial cell wall biosynthesis, at the molecular level and from a structure-function perspective. Dean has co-authored 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers, many as first author, and edited over 360 manuscripts written by scientists for whom English is a second language in his capacity as a freelance scientific copyeditor. He recently branched into wildlife ecology and conservation, and now applies his broad knowledge of the life sciences to scientific editing and proofreading.
