Dr. Robert Phillips

Main Areas of Expertise Molecular biology; DNA repair and recombination; Human preterm birth Secondary Areas of Expertise Clinical science (Urology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology); Virology Biography After studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, I undertook postgraduate research in the laboratory of Professor Peter Emmerson at Newcastle University, studying the DNA repair enzyme RecBCD. I remained under the supervision of Prof. Emmerson for my first postdoctoral role, investigating the molecular biology of Newcastle Disease Virus. For the next 13 years of my career I applied my knowledge of molecular biology in the field of human reproduction, as I attempted to unravel the complex mechanisms responsible for preterm labour. In 2013 I made the move into scientific editing, working full-time for the Nature Reviews clinical science journals for 2 years before becoming a freelance science editor. Qualifications PhD Biochemistry of the RecBCD enzyme of Escherichia coli and its subunits, Newcastle University, UK MA Cambridge University, UK BA Natural Sciences (Genetics), Cambridge University, UK Current Activity Freelance editor
