Main Areas of Expertise Molecular biology; DNA repair and recombination; Human preterm birth Secondary Areas of Expertise Clinical science (Urology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology); Virology Biography After studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, I undertook postgraduate research in the laboratory of Professor Peter Emmerson at Newcastle University, studying the DNA repair enzyme RecBCD. I remained under the supervision of Prof. Emmerson for my first postdoctoral role, investigating the molecular biology of Newcastle Disease Virus. For the next 13 years of my career I applied my knowledge of molecular biology in the field of human reproduction, as I attempted to unravel the complex mechanisms responsible for preterm labour. In 2013 I made the move into scientific editing, working full-time for the Nature Reviews clinical science journals for 2 years before becoming a freelance science editor.
